A Journey as a Photographer & Cheongsam Artisan in Vancouver
I was born in Hong Kong, a city alive with energy, movement, and tradition. Growing up there shaped the way I see people — attentive to subtle gestures, quiet emotions, and fleeting moments. These instincts continue to guide my photography today, especially in my work with the cheongsam.
In my youth, I spent a decade in Melbourne, where I learned to slow down and appreciate the finer details of life — fabric, posture, light, and restraint. I now call Vancouver home, a city where cultures blend naturally. Living between these places has given me a deep respect for heritage and a sensitivity to how personal stories are expressed across cultures.
As a Hong Konger, I’ve often wrestled with questions of identity — belonging to many worlds, yet never fully anchored in just one. Through photography, I found a way to explore that experience. The cheongsam, with its timeless elegance and quiet strength, has become central to my work. It is not a costume, but a reflection of heritage, grace, and individuality.
The cheongsam holds a special place in my heart. It is more than a garment — it is a living expression of our culture. Drawn to its grace and history, I sought out cheongsam masters and learned from them the importance of preserving this craft, from its construction to the way it is worn and carried.
Since 2016, I’ve been photographing individuals, couples, and weddings, frequently introducing the cheongsam into my sessions. Each photoshoot offers an opportunity to reconnect with my roots, blending old-world elegance with the modern world. Whether it’s a dedicated cheongsam portrait session, a full-day wedding, or a special event, I approach each shoot with care and intention. To me, photography is not about luxury or excess, but about revealing your essence — allowing confidence and authenticity to surface naturally.
Through my lens and craftsmanship, I hope to create images that present the beauty of both the person and the garment — photographs that feel personal, meaningful and timeless.
